SciFinder registration issue.

SciFinder message:
You are not authorized to access SciFinder from your current IP address, 98.194.48.160.
Off-campus use may require a proxy or VPN.

Answer

The error message indicates that SciFinder (CAS) doesn’t recognize your home computer (IP address in the error message)  as a UHD computer.  Did you register for a SciFinder account through the library website (https://library.uhd.edu/scifinder) or do you go directly to the SciFinder website?  If you did use the library link, did you register with your UHD email address?  Coming through the UHD library page and using your UHD email are how SciFinder (CAS) verifies you should have access.  If you did those things and it still isn’t working there are two options.  You can either re-register through the library home page when you are on campus (so the system recognizes the registering IP address as being at UHD and then you can log in from home, via the library homepage, with no problem ) or, if you prefer to sign up at home, you will need to follow the directions from Information Technology (IT) found here -- https://www.uhd.edu/computing/help/Documents/accessyourpc.pdf#search=VPN -- to set up VPN access to your UHD computer from your home computer, and go through the registration process.  That again will verify to SciFinder (CAS) that you are a legitimate user.  If you have any issues configuring your home computer for VPN access, contact IT at either  -- ithelp@uhd.edu – or (713) 221-8031 (x3000).
