I am looking for statistics on prison inmates incarcerated in Texas and the number to be released this year.

I also need any statistics regarding recidivism.

I would suggest you start with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website - http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/index.html

This will give you access to reports on Texas prison inmates including a breakdown of how many are currently in prison, their ethnicity and education levels. Look specifically at the publications section of the website - http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/publications/index.html . See "Executive Services" (way down the page) for the annual "Statistical Report" with detailed demographic statistics on offenders, crimes committed, sentences, etc.

As for recidivism - You might try some of the databases listed in the Criminal Justice Research guide - http://library.uhd.edu/cj

Any of the top picks on the page would be a good place to start - use terms such as Recidivism and Texas, Revolving Door and prisons and Texas.
