Peer-reviewed journals are specialized publications that have short articles of original research or scholarship written for other scholars or experts. The "peer-reviewed" part of the name means each article is reviewed by a panel of peer (i.e., other experts).  Those peers make sure the authors followed good research practices and evaluate whether the article makes an original contribution to our knowledge on a subject.  It is a kind of quality control -- the panel of peers only accept articles for publication if they meet high standards of scholarship and professional ethics.  For a more detailed explanation, see http://library.uhd.edu/scholarly.

There are a couple of ways to search for peer-reviewed journal articles:

Method 1:

(a) Go to https://www.uhd.edu/library/Pages/library-index.aspx
(b) Find the LibSearch box in the middle of the screen.
(c) Enter a search in the box (example: accounting information systems).
(d) When the results display, look at the options on the left side of the screen.  Under Refine Results, select choose Scholarly (peer-reviewed) Journals and Full Text.
(e) You can also use the Publication Date option on the side menu to limit the dates.
(f) If you find too many of the results are book reviews and other short articles, go back to the side menu, find the Filter by Source Type option, and choose Academic Journals. That should limit your search to longer articles.

Method 2:

(a) Go to http://library.uhd.edu/computerscience
(b)The databases in the Find Articles sections are tools that can be used to find peer-reviewed journals in a particular field.  The best ones for computer science topics are listed here.
(c) Click on one of the database names to start your search.
(d) Some of these databases (ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore) include only peer-reviewed journals. If you choose one of these databases, simply search for your topics to find relevant articles.
(e) Other databases include many different kinds of publications. If you search these databases, enter your search. Then, on the results page, look at the options on the left or right side of screen, and choose "Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals."
