How can I locate forensic science retention/graduation rates for universities across the US?

Answer

Unfortunately, you will not find retention and graduation rates for forensic science and technology programs in American universities. Universities  report these rates by race, gender, degrees taken but not by programs/majors. Probably, this happens because it's too hard to keep the statistics for those students who change majors during their years of study. Instead universities report the number of graduates in a particular major/program. They use the term "completion" to mean how many students graduate.

You can find completion numbers by using the National Center for Education Statistics’ College Navigator at http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/. Here are steps that will get you useful information after you get to the site. It may look complicated, but if you take it step-by-step, you should get where you want to go.

1. Look at the search area on the left of the page. Select "Browse by Programs". A selection box will pop up. In the middle of the box type "forensic", click on "+add" button next to "Forensic Science and Technology" program title. Now you can click "Show results".

2. You should get 262 results for American universities where the Forensic Science and Technology programs are offered. If this is too much, look at the search area for other ways to limit your search.

3. To see the completion numbers for the most current year available, click on a university title, select "Programs", and scroll down to "Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting and Related Protective Services".
