My research topic is: failing urban schools.

1. How do I find credible articles about schools that are below average and ways to improve them? 2. How do I find surveys on urban schools? 3. How do I find statistics on a school's standardized testing performance?

Answer

I suggest you start your research on the databases page of the library’s Education Research Guide http://library.uhd.edu/content.php?pid=115736&sid=1002221. Try the Academic Search Complete database or the ERIC database. Once in a database, enter some of these terms into the search box:
“urban education”
“urban schools”
“education reform”
“achievement gap”
improvement

Back at the Education Research Guide  look for the blue tabs that say “Web Resources” and “Education Statistics.” On these pages you will find some helpful links for information and statistics on urban schools and measures to improve them. Particularly, look at the National Center for Education Statistics linked from the Education Statistics tab.
