Where can I get articles or find more information on getting college campuses, including UHD, to make healthier food choices available to students?

Answer

A good place to start is by researching food choices and nutrition on college campuses. To find the best resources for research in higher education, start with our library guide on Higher Education which can be found by clicking on the following link: https://library.uhd.edu/highered OR by going to the library homepage (www.uhd.edu/library) and clicking on the dark gray Research Guides tab>>>Guides by Subject. Click on the Education link; then choose Higher Education from the list. Once in the Higher Education research guide, select the “Databases” tab. From the databases listed, begin with ERIC.

Once in the ERIC database, try using search terms like:

College students AND nutrition

College students AND eating habits

College students AND obesity

When on the page where you enter the search terms, notice the “Search Options” box below the search boxes. One of the options is to limit your search by “Educational Level." Here choose “Higher Education” to limit your results to this specific group.

When you are looking at your results, notice the links on the left side of the page. There is a link for “Subject”. Clicking on this link will provide you some specific subjects to limit your results. You can also use this to help get ideas for more search terms.

For specific information about food choices and initiatives at UHD, check out the website for UHD Dining Services, run by a company called Compass-USA at https://www.dineoncampus.com/uhd. The UHD Dining Services/Compass-USA website provides detailed information about the options and initiatives provided by the UHD dining services. You may want to explore information under the Wellness & Nutrition tab.

For further information, I suggest contacting the Director of Dining Services.
