Does UHD offer mental health services for students?

If UHD has these services, what can they offer students? If UHD does not have mental health services, how does a student go about getting help? Has there been a rise over the years in students seeking help for depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts?

Answer

Try contacting Student Counseling Services at https://www.uhd.edu/student-life/counseling/Pages/default.aspx. The counseling is done through the U T Employee Assistance Program, which UHD has a contract with. UHD Employment Services and Operations oversees that contract, so ESO might have some information https://www.uhd.edu/administration/employment-services-operations/Pages/hr-index.aspx

You may also want to search journals and magazines to learn from the experiences of other universities. Start with the library's Education Research Guide http://library.uhd.edu/Education (choose the Databases tab). You might begin with the ERIC database and try combinations of the following search terms:

“Mental Health Services” AND “college students”

“Mental Health” AND “Counseling Services”

“Counseling Services” AND "Higher Education”

Some databases listed in the Psychology Research Guide may also be useful http://library.uhd.edu/psychology. Try PsychInfo or PsychoArticles.
