I'm looking for material on the advantages and disadvantages of mainstreaming children with special needs.

Answer

A good place to start your research is with Libsearch, a tool you can use to search the library’s online and print collections for books, journals, newspapers, videos, and more. Start at the library’s home page at www.uhd.edu/library. In the Libsearch box in the center of the screen, try searching the terms

“Special education” AND Mainstreaming
“Special Education” AND Inclusion

There are a number of different kinds of resources in the results including books, conference proceedings, and journals. If you look to the column on the left, you can limit your search by content type, location (to look only at items available from UHD), and by Subject Term (taking a look at the subject terms may help you narrow your results to find information on advantages and disadvantages.)

Another great resource is Opposing Viewpoints in Context. If you start at the library’s homepage, select the DATABASES tab from the search box in the center of the screen and then “O”. Find and click the link for Opposing Viewpoints. Once in the database, try searching

Mainstreaming Education

There is information here that should address both advantages and disadvantages on the topic.

For additional help with research in education, check out our library guide for the subject at http://library.uhd.edu/Education.
