Why doesn't the LibSearch engine work outside of school premises?

I'm working on my research paper. The PDFs, articles, etc do not come up just the abstract of the search results. This is the second time I've used LibSearch off campus and it's the second time it has happened.

Answer

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble accessing our databases from home. We have a way of testing off campus database access here at the library. I tested LibSearch with both Internet Explorer and Firefox and I was not able to reproduce the issue you are experiencing. After you enter your search terms in LibSearch, click search, and retrieve a list of results, you should see something at the top of your results list that says "Hello Guest, Login for full access." If you click on those words and enter your UHD credentials then you should be able to access the full text of articles. We do not have full text access to every article you may find with LibSearch. However, if you check the box marked full text on the side of the page next to your search results, the results will then be limited to only articles we have available in full text. Also you do not even have to click on the top of the page. If you click where it says pdf. full text or html full text below any of the articles, you should be prompted to enter your UHD credentials and then you should be able to view the article after logging in. To my knowledge no one else is currently having this issue and our network at least with regards to off campus access is functioning normally. Please call the reference desk at 713-221-8187 to further discuss this or respond using the link below.
