I would like information on laws protecting students with disabilities and responsibilities of the universities they attend.

I am doing a paper for Dr. Jennings and need additional information pertaining to the laws that the school and other universities must abide by in order to provide students with adequate access to the facilities and parking.

Answer

There were comparatively recent changes in ADA regulations for all public facilities, so you will need to have information from 2010 or more recent. I found a government publication with guidance on the current law, including the changes at:

http://www.ada.gov/2010ADAstandards_index.htm

Also, here is the government's ADA Web site: http://www.ada.gov/

I had some luck with an educational article database, too. It's not as specifically on what universities have to do, but it had some articles that seemed like they might be helpful. The database is called the Professional Development Collection.

Once you get in the database, copy and paste the following search:

( disabilities or ada ) AND ( guidelines or guidance or compliance or law ) AND ( universities or colleges or higher education )

When you find an article you're interested in, if it has a link with it that says "Full Text," you can get the whole article right on the computer.

You might also Contact UHD's Office of Disability Services.
