I am looking for information about how many people or houses are actually using solar electricity, could you help me with this?

One good resource is the US Energy Information Agency at http://www.eia.gov/.  Look under Sources for Renewable or Alternative Fuels.  On this page under DATA there is a set specific to Solar.  

I also recommend checkout out our library guide for Statistics and Data.  In the box in the center of the page there are several resources for federal statistics.  Try using Data.gov. In the search box type solar energy statistics.  Scroll down to Solar Resources by Class and Country  link. 

Also, I suggest you visit the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) site at www.seia.org. You may find the following reports useful:
