Q. I am looking for information about how many people or houses are actually using solar electricity, could you help me with this?

Answer

One good resource is the US Energy Information Agency at http://www.eia.gov/.  Look under Sources for Renewable or Alternative Fuels.  On this page under DATA there is a set specific to Solar.

I also recommend checkout out our library guide for Statistics and Data.  In the box in the center of the page there are several resources for federal statistics.  Try using Data.gov (4th link in the box).  From the Data.gov homepage, click on COMMUNITY from the tool bar.  From the Community page, choose Energy.  Next, choose the tab for Data/Tools.  On this page, there is a column on the right for CATEGORIES.  Choose Solar.  There are several reports related to solar energy products here.

FedStats, the 1st link in the center box, is another good resource.  Look for the link to Search on the bottom left of the page and then search "Solar."

Also, I suggest you visit the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) site at www.seia.org.
