Q. I am looking for information about barriers to doing business in Turkey.

Specifically, I'm interested in the American food industry (cupcakes) expanding to Turkey.

Answer

If you need books, as opposed to articles or reports, on your topic, I would suggest you use LibSearch, which is the search box on the library Web site at http://www.uhd.edu/library.

Type this:

doing business turkey

On the resulting list of items you get, on the left side, you can click on books/ebooks, and it will give you just those. Also click on U of H Downtown to get items we own. If you want to limit it to ebooks (books with the text online), also click on items with full text online from the left column. To get books that are not online, click on the "check availability" link on the book listing and you will go to the catalog where you can get the book's location and call number.

To search for online database information, try the following:

From the library's home page select the RESEARCH GUIDES tab; then click on the Guides by Subject link. Find the INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS guide under Business (http://library.uhd.edu/internationalbusiness). Start with a database called DOING BUSINESS (found under the International Business Law, Contracts, and Human Rights tab). In the database, select your country from the SELECT ECONOMY drop-down menu. Then start with the topic "Starting a Business." When you’ve clicked on that, there will be  a link called “ View Details.” When you click on that, you will get information about the regulations and laws that determine what you do when you start a business in that country. This will give you some idea of entry barriers. You may want to go back to the original page on your country to look at other topics.

Also, you can get useful reports on countries from MarketLine Advantage, which is also listed on the Country Resources tab. Search for Turkey, then select the blue link that says "Countries" at the top of the page. The first report that comes up is on Turkey.
