Q. I'm looking for statistics on unemployment rates over the past seven years.

To find unemployment statistics for the last seven years, I suggest you start from the UHD Library's home page http://www.uhd.edu/library/. Select the "Research Guides" tab>>"Guides by Subject">>"Political Science">> Select the guide titled "Government Information," then click on the "Census and Statistics" tab. Choose the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) link.

On the BLS home page look for the "Unemployment Rate" link under the "Latest Numbers" heading on the right. Click on the dinosaur icon to see historical data.

To find articles on the same topic, go to the Business Research Guide and try searching databases called ABI/Inform and Business Source Complete. Use "unemployment rate" and "United States" as keywords. You will get a huge number of results. You can sort your results by publication date, limit your search to full text and scholarly articles. Also, look under SUBJECT for further suggestions to narrow your search. You will find these options on the left sidebar in the Business Source Complete and the right sidebar in ABI/Inform.
