Q. I would like to obtain information on the food and beverage industry, specifically, on Porter’s five forces analysis.

For example, are potential entrants in this industry strong or weak? Are the bargaining power of buyers weak or strong in this industry?

Answer

1). If you are looking for a beverage and food industry analysis, you can find one by going to the Business Source Complete database found under the dark grey Databases tab in the middle of the library's home page. Once you are in the database,  take the following steps:

1) In the search box, type “beverage and food industry”
2) Under “Limit Your Results” choose “Industry profile” from the Publication Type Box
3) Search
4) Once you are on the results screen, in the “Narrow Results By” column on the left, choose “United States” from the “Geography” list.

The results you get should include the information you need to analyze this according to the Porter’s 5 Forces Model.

2). We do have a resource that provides a 5 forces analysis of industries. It’s called MarketLine Advantage, and you can get to it from here: General Business Resources Research Guide. Select the Company and Industry Resources tab.

Once you’re in MarketLine Advantage, try searching food and beverage, then look at the industry profiles. There should be a global one, as well as U.S., although they might be split into parts. Once you select one you want to see by clicking on the title, you should get a report that includes a 5 forces analysis, so that should provide you with more information.
