Q. How do I research information on a particular company?
Start with the Library’s General Business Guide: http://library.uhd.edu/business
Locate and click the “Company and Industry Resources” tab. Try the "MarketLine Advantage" database. Enter your company name into the search box, then click on the “Companies” tab at the top of the page. Next, click on the link for your company. Locate the PDF at the top of the page that says “download”. This will give you a very detailed SWOT report.
Once you’ve downloaded your SWOT report, go back to the search screen for MarketLine Advantage. This time after you search for your company name, click on the “Industries” tab at the top of the page. You should find an industry report that corresponds to your company's industry.
You can find company financial information by searching for your company in Mergent Online and Hoover's (linked from the Library’s General Business Guide). Both resources will provide you with a list of competitors and other useful information.
It may be more tricky to find information on private companies. Hoover's is probably the best database to use for private companies. Reference USA Business Database may also have information on private companies.
