(1) Go to our Catalog at https://www.uhd.edu/library/Pages/library-index.aspx.

(2) Click on Advanced Search and from the Any field drop-down menu select Subject
(3) Copy/paste into the search box: African Americans — Education — Texas — History or Freedmen— Education — Texas — History.
(4) In the results screen, you should find some material that includes the time period you are interested in.

1. Start with the library home page at http://www.uhd.edu/library/.
2. Then choose the dark gray “Research Guides” tab.
3. Choose “Guides by Subject.”
4. Then choose “History.”
5. Search the “Handbook of Texas Online”, “Academic Search Complete”  or "America: History & Life" databases.
