Start looking for information on your topic by searching our online library catalog for books. To do this, start at the library home page, and select the Catalog tab. In the search box in the center of the screen, I entered a couple of different searches, including:

alcoholism and families
alcohol abuse family

Click “search”. That gives you a list of results that includes books found at other U of H libraries. To see just the stuff at our library go to the box near the top of the screen that says “UHD and other resources” and change it to “Limit by UHD”, then click search again.

To find some articles on your topic, go back to the library homepage. Then click on the link to the left that reads “Databases” >> then “P” >> “PsycInfo”. This is a database, an online search tool that will find you psychology articles.

Now, there’s a lot of stuff out there on alcohol, some of which isn’t relevant to you, so you’ll probably need to look through some different lists of results before you find the perfect articles. But I tried putting “alcoholism” in the first search box, then “effect on family” in the second search box. I clicked on the check box next to the words “full text” so that I’d only get articles where I can read the whole thing right away on my computer. This seemed to give me a decent list of results. When you see an article you want to read, just click on the “HTML full text” or “PDF full text” link.

You could also then click on subjects that will be listed to the left of the screen, to do a search again for what you started with, plus the subject you clicked on. This will make your list of results shorter, but more specific to your topic.
