A good place to start research in education is with our Education Research Guide  Here there are several good databases for researching topics in education. I recommend starting with ERIC. I searched the term “extracurricular” and came up with over 4000 results.

From the results page, take a look at the column on the left. Click on the “Subject” link to see a list of related subjects. From here you can limit your results to Academic Achievement, Student attitudes, etc.

You can also try searching with multiple terms, for example:

Extracurricular AND benefits
Extracurricular AND correlation

Another database you may find helpful is Opposing Viewpoints In Context, a database for editorials, news, statistics, multimedia, and web sites on controversial topics. You can access it by going to the library homepage at, selecting the dark grey DATABASES tab, and then “O”. Find and click on the link for Opposing Viewpoints. Here try searching for Extracurricular Activities.

The UHD Library also has several books on the subject. Try searching the catalog ( ) for extracurricular and school, browse through the titles to see if there is anything relevant to your topic. If you see a book that interests you, click on the title. If you scroll down a bit to the “CONTENTS”, you can see what kind of information is available in the book (It varies from title to title, but often you will see chapter titles).
