Now Available: Library Research Guide to Financial Ratios

The library has access to several tools which may help you.

Ratios and industry averages by company name are available in the following databases, which are all accessible here:

Note that your specific company will only be included if it is a larger public company. If it isn't, you may have to go strictly by the industry that your company is in -- more information on this below.

Hoover's -- Look up your company, then look under "Competition" then "Competitive Landscape."

Mergent Horizon -- Look up your company, then look at "Key Competitors." You can also click on the information about what industry sector the company is in and get an overview of it.

Ratios and industry averages by industry (not company name) are available in the following databases, also accessible at the same link above.

First Research -- Searchable by industry keyword, NAICS code, and SIC code. Look under "Financial Information," once you find your industry.

D&B Key Business Ratios -- Searchable by SIC code. (This database says it has company search, but it doesn't seem to work too well.)

eStatement Studies -- Searchable by NAICS code and industry keyword.
