I am researching Theater Under the Stars in Houston for my Business Strategy capstone class project.
It's often hard to find information about small private companies, because they are not required to report their financial information the way to publicly traded companies are required to do it, but I can point to a few things.
The sources I will mention can be found at http://library.uhd.edu/business.
Start with the "Company and Industry Information" tab at the top of the screen.
Then select "ReferenceUSA Business Database" and search for:
Theatre Under the Stars
[be sure to use the spelling t-h-e-a-t-r-e]
This search will get you a brief report with basic information about the company. Look at the "business profile," "business demographics," "management directory," and "competitors report." You may want to write down contact information for the company in case you decide to contact them directly to request additional information. That step is often necessary with private companies, and some of them are happy to help out students when they can. You may also want to search competitors in ReferenceUSA to get the same information about those companies.
The other database for private companies is PrivCo, but I checked and they don't cover Theatre Under the Stars.
At this point, you could look at FirstResearch, a database for industry analysis. Search for: performing arts. This search will get you analysis of industry trends that could define the business strategy TUTS would need to adopt.
For other published sources about Theatre Under the Stars, you may need to check news reports. See the "Business News" tab at the top of our business page. Try particularly Houston Business Journal, Houston Chronicle, and LexisNexis Academic. For the first two database, simply search for: Theatre Under the Stars. In LexisNexis Academic, try this search in the "Search the News" box: "theatre under the stars" w/10 houston.
